A BRAND NEW DAY IN A LIFE THAT YOU HATE

Blouse // BooHoo
Bralet // Urban Outfitters
Leggings* // Your Eyes Lie
Shoes // Matalan
Rings // Rachael Sudlow, Topshop, Market, OASAP*
Temporary Tattoo* // Inkwear

So finally I have ventured outside to take some outfit photos with Polly, and to be honest I was pretty disappointed.  The photos were taken with my new Nikon D3200 and 35mm lens and as it was starting to get dark the light could have been better but I was most disappointed by the depth of field, when I'm taking close-ups the depth of field is really shallow and looks awesome, but the same does not occur with outfit post backdrops.  I'm a photography student and should know this but does anyone have tips or tricks? I haven't tried A mode yet so I'll give that a go next time, but most likely I'll probably stick to taking photos in my top room!tboo

  2. Ahhh love the leggings!

Yeah to get it to have depth of field for full body shots you'd need a 50mm lens :) I'm saving up for one haha xx

  4. The pictures look good though, don't be too hard on yourself, nice to mix it up occasionally and shoot on location. But as mentioned above, of you could borrow and test out a 50mm lens and see if you prefer the results. I was pretty pleased with the depth of field when I done an editorial project on some people and needed the background to shallow out.
If you want to cheat just blur the background out a little in photoshop. I don't know, but either way the images look good and the solid block of wall is a great minimal background choice.

  5. Modify the F number on your camera when you're taking pictures, if you want a better depth of field.

  7. I really like the photo tbh. I think the lack of light doesn't help. I have a Nikon D300 but with a 50mm lense and don't tend to have your problem, so all I can suggest is the lense? I'm by no mean a photographer though!

  16. Your best bet is to buy a lens with a really low aperture setting like f1.8, or something thereabouts! I really want this one http://www.digitalrev.com/product/nikon-nikkor-af-50mm-f/MTM4Mg_A_A?googlebase=1&country=GB but it's a fixed zoom which is annoying, but the ones that aren't are hundreds! If not just try taking the pictures really far away and zoom loads, which should make the camera only focus on you as the further zoomed in, the lower the aperture! Ramble ramble ramble!
