REVIEW // Seventeen Lasting Fix Lipstick in New Black

Seventeen Lasting Fix Lipstick in New Black // Boots £4.29

I popped into Boots the other day and thought that as I am trying to build a lipstick collection I'd have a browse of the different brands.  Recently I've been lusting after a deep purple toned red but couldn't find one to fit my taste.  I asked the shop assistant who said she's been looking for the same and recommended this 17 lipstick 'New Black'.  I had already swatched and considered it so thought 'what the hell' and bought it.

Enough of my boring anecdote - I am actually here to attempt a lipstick review (yet again).  I'm going to start with the colour.  I'd say this is a brown toned red rather than purple, which is what I was trying to find, but as you blot it off it becomes more of a very dark cherry red.  You need a few coats for opaque coverage but it applies well and gives a very dark colour - one that I actually really like!  I wanted black lipstick for a long while when it was 'in' but was never confident enough to wear it, plus a good one is hard to find on the cheap!  As the name suggests this is the 'New Black' - nearly there but not as harsh, as the warmer tones suit your skin better.  It certainly is a very dramatic colour for me so won't be much of an every day colour, but with minimal eye makeup it could complete the perfect vampy makeup look.  Unfortunately the staying power of this lipstick isn't something I can compliment, it lasts around 2-3 hours and when it starts to come off it looks a bit like red wine a bad way, but that's just what I found, others have said that the staying power lasts 4-5 hours so don't take my word for it!

In conclusion, despite the slightly unfulfilling staying power, it is a colour that I really like and I look forward to going out of my comfort zone - plus it was under a fiver so I can't complain!  Do any of you guys own this lipstick?  Also if any of you have any recommendations for a deep purple lipstick I'd love to know some suggestions!
love amy x

  1. It looks great. I love strong colors like this! *_*
And of course it looks beautiful on your lips. :)

  2. I like that it is a brown toned red, rather than purple. Less scary for me that way! I don't think number 17 have ever been great for staying on, but they are quite cheap so I guess you can't have it all! Looks gorgeous on you by the way!

  3. You should get some Lipcote. It stings like a bitch but I find it makes my lipstick last much longer. This colour looks amazing on you, I'm so tempted to try it!

  4. That color looks great on you! I'm still looking for a lipstick like this so maybe I should give Boots another visit. Very pretty!

  5. I recently bought a topshop lipstick in 'Depth' which is quite similar to this! It is a very deep plum shade with a matte finish which I love, definitely check it out if your looking for some more dark purples! :D

    1. This is beautiful on you! NARS velvet matte lip pencil in "train bleu" is a bit pricey but an amazing purple lip crayon x

  6. you posted this at the perfect time! I've been searching online for reviews on dark plum coloured lipstick and surprisingly couldn't find all that much (the only other i found was Revlon Black Cherry). This is such a gorgeous colour so i might just have to get it :)

  7. Loved this! :) going to have to check this out asap!

Two of my favourite dark purple/reds are Kate Moss for Rimmel in shade 04 and Tom Ford Black Orchid. Although the Tom Ford lippy is a little pricey at £36! However the formula and packaging are stunning!

I've been desperate to try Mac's Film Noir for a while now too which is a much more dark brown red.

    hope that helps!

  8. Loved the post :)

  9. I absolutely love this colour! In germany we have an organic cosmetic line which has quite the same coloured lipstick, and I love it! :)

  10. I used to have exactly this lipstick! Wore it out once I think, the colour was beaut but the quality was awful! It would start to fade in some places but not in others so I'd basically have creasy looking lips! Horrible! Such a shame as the colour is really perfect. I suppose it's cheap-ish so I could be swayed to try it again aha! xo

  11. I might pick that up when I'm in Boots, I'm really loving purple toned lips at the moment.

My recommendations would be Sleek's Mulberry, Rimmel Lasting Finish in Starry eyed or Rimmel's Moisture range in Sloanes Plum, they're all gorgeous colours. I've also found placing a tissue over your lips and powdering the tissue makes them last so much longer. Sounds weird but it works!
